Divitt Trumpet Practice Mutes - Fantastic New Product!

THE best practice I now own (sound wise), just not small enough to fit in my gig bag like my Best Brass practice mute (ANOTHER mute you guys sell)!!!!!

Breathes very nicely for the in-staff register and high notes. Enforces good breathing discipline in lower registers. Sounds very nearly like my Harmon mute, with just a bit of ‘deadness’ which is the trade-off for less restrictive flow. Probably still a bit too loud for travelers who don’t want to disturb their hotel neighbors. The taper delivers a snug fit that is secure even with a compact-trumpet’s shallower bell. Highly recommended.

This a great mute. It looks, feels and play like a Harmon Mute but more in tune. Has very little back pressure like other practice mutes and does great at cutting the volume of my horn. I still like my ShhhMute for middle of the night practice sessions when I can't sleep so I don't wake up anybody in the house. However, on the days when I need to use a practice mute so I don't drive anyone crazy, this is my first choice. If I ever start gigging again I am going to consider using this instead of my Harmon mute and see what happens.

Compared to the mute that I have used for practice so far, the muffling performance is a little low, but I think that the feeling of blowing is outstandingly good. Especially, the feeling of blowing in the high register deserves special mention. The lip slurs and fine tonguing feelings that were difficult to blow with the practice mute so far are also very good.

I took Trent's word for it and pre-ordered. When forced to mute my practice in my house, I've got an old Humes & Berg straight-mute-type of cotton-stuffed mute, the Yamaha silent-mute system, both old and new (the new is much less stuffy than the old, and will ride in the bell of your horn). The Yamaha is useful because you can use it with headphones or without, but it feels a little stuffy. This Divitt is extremely light and plays much more open than the Yamaha, maybe even slightly more open than the old Humes & Berg, but with a much more pleasing tone. The H&B has that straight-mute flavor; the Divitt takes the buzz off the typical bubble or harmon and reduces the volume of a bubble/harmon by about 50%. It's as light as an old-school aluminum harmon, which is to say infinitely lighter than a copper Jo Ral! I really like the sound that comes through the Divitt. I mean "like it" as in the moment I started playing it I thought, 'I bet this would sound great mic'd live or recorded'. Then I instantly stuck in a Jo Ral to compare volume/tone. Then I went downstairs to dig the old Humes & Berg practice mute out of a bushel basket of mutes. This is a keeper. I would've held out for a fun color, but wanted whatever Trent would send me the quickest. It's hard to imagine why people (especially families) don't want to listen to us practice, but that's a problem for therapy! I imagine I'll use this mute quite a bit even when no one else is home, while I'm watching TV or to hear changes on play-alongs better.

I’ve been looking for a new practice mute for a couple years now, and I am damn happy with this one. With very little resistance, and a lot of sound dampening, this practice mute is going to be in my bag for whenever I travel. It also comes in handy living in an apartment, where I can’t openly practice whenever I’d like. I would highly recommend this mute.

Like that the mute is so light. Sound is very good - no pressure in moving air - like the design - can practice without disturbing people in the next room. :o) Would recommend for practice at home on the road or anywhere the music hits you.

Great practice mute for the price! Love the response in all registers from pedal tones up. Very free blowing. Its a little less quiet than my best brass practice mute but that extra volume translates into a more comfortable and open playing experience. My new favorite practice mute!

This is an excellent trumpet practice mute at a very reasonable price. I own 6 other practice mutes, and this is my new favorite. Resistance is low and intonation is maintained fairly well. It allows accurate playing from low register to altissimo register with very little compromise. I highly recommend it.
