Learn more about the ACB Doubler's Piccolo!!!

Piccolo trumpet is a money-maker for the gigging trumpeter. Wedding work and holiday gigs often call for piccolo trumpet. It's an essential instrument, but it often makes more sense to prioritize owning a top-of-the-line Bb or C trumpet over investing in a $3,000 piccolo. The ACB Doubler's Piccolo is perfect if you want a great playing professional piccolo trumpet without spending upwards of 2-3K. If you need an excellent piccolo trumpet at an amazing price, this is the horn you've been looking for!

Specifications

  • Trumpet Shank receiver (pipes in Bb and A)
  • 4 valve
  • .448 bore
  • Stainless steel valves
  • ACB Precision Valve Alignment on every picc
  • ACB case (lightweight but sturdy)

This is a great piccolo trumpet for someone who is looking for a great, professional level trumpet that won't break the bank. We get them from a factory (where they're made to our specs), and then modify them and playtest them at our shop.

A review from our customer Michael on 8/3/2017:

"5 STARS! AWESOME! This horn plays great! I put it through the tests playing both sides Bb/A. Both play great and the horn is so easy to play after playing something else that I don't have to worry about transitioning between them. This is awesome!"

Our Doubler's piccolo trumpet is also very popular with serious amateur players. With the combination of quality and price point, this is a great opportunity to get into piccolo trumpet playing just for fun. Our customer Scott wrote the following about his Doubler's piccolo trumpet in our new satin finish:

"Very happy with this horn. I had been playing on a loaner Yamaha, and decided I needed to get my own piccolo trumpet. Not being a regular player, picking up something on the affordable side was a requirement. From my limited playing, moving from the Yamaha to the ACB Doubler was simple with no noticeable change in sound or performance. The valves are smooth and responsive, the sound is light and regal. And the satin finish is a nice variation in appearance. From a non-professional opinion, I cannot recommend this horn highly enough for the player with limited opportunities to play."

Also included: a Bremner sshh Practice Mute for piccolo!

See why the sshhmute is taking over the practice mute market! This is one of our best selling products here at ACB. Available for trumpet/cornet, piccolo trumpet, and flugelhorn, these mutes play well in tune and have an optimized resistance level. Great for warming up at the gig and late night practice sessions at home. Check out some of the videos below to see details of the construction and development process!

Features of the sshhmute...

  • Gives accurate tuning throughout the range.
  • Helps develop and open the throat muscles to give better air flow, thus improving the tone.
  • Has an improved resistance factor, allowing you to extend practice sessions and enhances pitching and accuracy.
  • Designed to fit into all brands and models of instruments without compromising effectiveness.
  • It is made from lightweight ABS plastic which will not cause your instrument to feel any heavier when playing.
  • Helps you warm up before going on stage.
  • Weighs only 1.62 oz (46g) about 18% less than traditional metal mutes.
  • Won't dent if you happen to drop it.
  • It is competitively priced, yet offers more benefits than most other mutes.

Blow Dry Brass

One of the greatest products I've seen in a long time... this WORKS!

Made for musicians by a musician

Everything needed to maintain a clean, pristine instrument & mouthpiece daily resides in this small pouch that easily fits into a gig bag for on the road and everyday practice sessions.

New & Revolutionary

This is NOT a cleaning product, but a drying product to be used on a clean horn once a day after your last session.

BlowDry Brass dries out a CLEAN instrument & mouthpiece after use, thus KEEPING them CLEAN. This maintenance system eliminates the need to continually bathe your instrument, or use traditional brass cleaning products. Works for most small & medium bore instruments & associated mouthpieces (kit good for about 1 year).

How BlowDry Brass works

The isopropyl alcohol drench of the loaded foam BIT causes it to expand to approximately twice its size.  This greatly enhances its pliability to move through the horn & to absorb moisture.  Moisture left in the throat & backbore of a mouthpiece after use is wicked out by the cotton filled ramrod.

Use BlowDry Brass once you have cleaned your horn.

Using BlowDry Brass on a clean horn after playing removes nearly all of the moisture in the tubing & piston ports, thus eliminating the conditions that cause a horn to get dirty. This also eliminates the “Petri dish” environment that an unmaintained horn creates, which allows mold & bacteria build up in your horn. BlowDry Brass maintains a “healthy” horn (Brass Instruments Can Cause Lung Disease & Kids’ musical instruments booming with bacteria)

BlowDry Brass was developed by a brass player for brass players.

ACB PICCOLO BUNDLE! DOUBLER'S PICCOLO, ACB MOUTHPIECE, BREMNER PRACTICE MUTE, AND BLOWDRY BRASS!

Posted by Scott Bogard on 20th Mar 2021

I'm not a professional Piccolo player, and I have no formal training. I play in a small brass group, and most of our music is cut down concert band arrangements. I bought a few low end piccs off ebay to use with this group, and I played some clarinet parts with them over the years. I decided it was time to upgrade to a doubler picc, and after the first notes I was immediately impressed by the blow, intonation, slotting, and response. The valves feel pretty much on par with my Adams cornet, but we'll have to see how they do as time passes. Overall the quality was noticeably better than the Amati I've been using for the past while, and I think this horn will help me improve as a player. I've also played an Indian made piccolo trumpet years ago, and that thing was not worth the scrap metal it was made out of (at least the Amati was usable). I did try a Bach piccolo once years ago, and it was pretty nice, but it's been too long for me to say how it compares to the Doubler. Probably just as good. The practice mute is really cool, and it's honestly why I got the bundle. Even if you live alone, consider getting it, because the "wee beastie" is shrill. I already have a blowdry brass system, which is really cool, but I don't use it every time (shame on me.) The ACB mouthpiece is really nice. It's similar to my Bach 7E, but I like the rim better. I tried other MPs I had laying around and while several sound nice, none work as well with this horn as the ACB (though my Bach 7E is definitely usable). Overall I highly recommend this picc to someone looking to get their feet wet in piccolo. It is plenty good for paying gigs, and I have a hard time imagining a high end piccolo being worth the extra cost, if it isn't your primary livelihood.

ACB Piccolo Bundle - A Great Horn

Posted by Stephen Hill on 20th Jul 2020

I've had my ACB piccolo for about two weeks now and it is a beautiful horn. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to the ACB picc mouthpiece and if you are new to piccolo trumpet, give yourself a couple of weeks to move from kazzoo stage to getting the horn to sound like a trumpet. It's a bit of a jump from a traditional trumpet, but an enjoyable trip so far. The horn itself is nicely made and truly lovely to look at. I haven't used the cleaning kit yet, but the mute has probably saved my marriage :-) Trent also provided a video of him play testing the horn, so I know for sure it plays wondefully and that with practice and patience I can have some fun with it down the road.
