A Great Vintage Martin Trumpet!

The Martin Handcraft Imperial is my absolute favorite vintage instrument! This one was made in 1939 and has the "M" bell. This trumpet has Martin's #2 medium Step bore (similar to Committee). This horn is in good condition, although we did have a patch applied to the bell ferrule knuckle joint (see photos). The horn is mostly in raw brass although some lacquer remains, and the horn has developed a beautifully rich patina. The mouthpiece receiver is not original, and the third valve slide is missing the adjustable ring and the stop rod nuts. The outer pipe of the top tuning slide leg has been removed and replaced, the alignment is excellent and the slide moves freely. The leadpipe has one small ding on top near the first valve and a slight ripple at the third valve. All valves and slides move freely.

Compression on the valves is quite low, they will need to be rebuilt (no leaks in leadpipe or tuning slide). Horn is priced accordingly.

Do not confuse the later post-committee "Imperials" with this one! While the later Imperial was an intermediate horn this Handcraft Imperial was the absolute top of the line of its time for Martin. This is a beautiful trumpet with classic art deco design details (see photos). Here's a video of a similar Martin Handcraft Imperial:

If you wanted a Committee but didn't want to fight the intonation issues of that horn the HCI is a superb option. In my opinion this is the finest trumpet Martin ever made, rich, warm creamy while still maintaining enough carrying power to play in a section or even play 1st parts on. Here's a video of a Handcraft Imperial from the same era:

Here's another clip of Trent, playing Monk's "Trinkle, Tinkle" on a similar HCI:
