This is a pre-owned Edwards modular C trumpet with a 3C223A bell, D2 leadpipe, and ovate tuning slide. The instrument is in great condition overall, although it is beginning to show the first signs of plating loss and the bracing from the pinky ring to the bell is partially popped (see photos). Please also note that you will need an Allen wrench to remove the leadpipe and the bell. Edwards no longer makes modular trumpets so the pre-owned market is your only option to find one of these instruments.

This trumpet has a lovely warm sound and forgiving slotting. This trumpet would be an easy switch for the player who primarily plays Bb but needs a C on occasion.

Bell: 3C223A

  • 4 7/8" diameter
  • Yellow brass
  • No. 2 mandrel (medium-large throat)
  • 23 gauge (.022", lightest gauge from Edwards)
  • Annealed (smooth blow and slightly darker tone)

Leadpipe: D2

  • More compression for faster articulation response
  • .343" venturi

Tuning slide: Ovate

  • Open blow with some compression
  • More fluidity to slotting

fabulous C trumpet
Written by Greg on 19th Dec 2019

So, I purchased this horn in a bit of a bind, experiencing serious valve issues with my mainstay 239GH Bach and heading into my busy season (Holidays - Nutcracker et al). Was hunting for a second-hand quality horn... with exceptional valves. Trying it out in advance was not an option. I spoke with Josh in order to determine some of the characteristics of this particular horn and to get a comparative opinion against some of the other horns they had available. His evaluation was thoughtful and aided immensely in making my decision. It's in great condition, has a wonderful core sound and slots very well. There are some colour differences between my old Bach and this, but they are all favourable. The blend is great within the section and the orchestra. Thank you ACB! Very happy customer!
