Description

The Adams Sonic Flugelhorn: Professional Quality, Unbeatable Price!

The Adams Custom Series flugelhorns are some of best (if not THE best) flugels in the world. Drawing on that experience, Adams has created a more affordable flugel that will fit just about any musical situation, the Sonic flugelhorn. It’s a ridiculously good horn for the price!

Adams’ motto is “Experience the Sound of Quality”, and this flugelhorn is made in the same factory as the Custom Series flugels. So how have they kept their high manufacturing quality at a lower price point?

Unlike with the Custom Series flugels, where you have to choose between 5 different models, then pick your bell material, bell thickness, and finish, the Sonic flugelhorn comes in one standard configuration.

This standardization streamlines the manufacturing process, resulting in a lower cost for you!

But, you don't have to take our word for it! Here's a review from Christopher (a retired USAF bandsman) from 3/17/21:

"I’ve just added an Adams Sonic Flugelhorn to my “bag”.  Love this horn, it’s a keeper!  THANKS ACB! First of all “B-Stock”, seriously? I cannot find the blemish unless I look really hard.  If the shop didn’t show me, I wouldn’t have seen it. About me. I’ve scratched out a decent career as a trumpeter and teacher - USAF field bands (25 years) and now teaching & freelancing.
So, I’ve been on a Flugel safari for the entire time. It started with and old Yammy 631 that I loved the sound of, but never trusted the valves (even after work from a big name shop). Fortunately, at the time, I was not playing it often enough to stress. Then I joined the USAF band which kindled my Flugel safari. I won't drop brand names, but have owned and performed on eight or more different brands (big names) and multiple models of each. Not to mention the Flugels of my co-workers. Name it, I’ve played it.

My search was for a sound that I love, intonation that is playable throughout my range, and with mechanics that I can trust (valves work, slides fit like they should, aesthetically pleasing).
This Sonic fits all my wants.  A gorgeously warm sound, excellent intonation, smoking valves, solidly built, a great looking ax, AND didn’t break the bank.

There aren’t very many horns that I blindly recommend to a trumpeter, beginner to pro.  The Adams Sonic Flugel is on that very short list. You won’t be disappointed with this Flugelhorn.

Sadly, my safari is over :)"

The bell is fairly similar to the Adams F1 bell in terms of shape, with a 6” diameter and a .50 gauge thickness. It’s a gold brass bell, which gives you a good balance of warmth and projection. There is some nickel trim that adds a little more focus and density to the sound. The valve block is CNC machined for incredible precision. The fully recessed top caps add that final touch of style!

Try changing between a shallower mouthpiece for extra brilliance and a deep mouthpiece for incredible richness to the sound.

The Sonic takes a large taper flugel mouthpiece (not included). We make three different depths of flugelhorn mouthpieces with any of our ACB rims - our medium-deep MDF is a great match for the Sonic.

Gold lacquer is standard, but silver plate is available too (great for the British brass band player).

    Adams Sonic Flugelhorn

Posted by Steve Fiedler on 26th Jan 2022

I am a comeback player after a very long break. Have always wanted to add a flugelhorn to my collection. After watching many of Trent's incredible play tests on YouTube, looking through the many options available through ACB and a few emails traded with Josh, I decided the Sonic would be a great option for me. I have never played an Adams horn before so it was a bit of a leap of faith. I will say that everything about the experience I had with ACB was awesome. From the helpful advice Josh gave me, getting to hear all the different horns on video, the quick shipping, and then the personalized video play test of my new horn by Kyle. The horn arrived about a week after my order and I have been breaking it in daily for the past three or four weeks. Loving it so far. The horn has a beautiful finish (I got gold lacquer), the valves are so smooth and I love the recessed valve buttons. Wish I could play it as well as Trent and Kyle! ACB is a great company to work with and I will continue to support them in the future. After the great experience with the Sonic flugelhorn, I may need to upgrade to an Adams Bb trumpet. Keep up the good work guys.

Beautiful! Everything I look for in a flugelhorn. The sound, intonation, flexibility, ease of play; it's all there! What else is there to say?

    Really Happy With This Flugelhorn

Posted by John Pundt on 18th Apr 2021

The Adams Sonic Flugel is a beautiful horn. It has an amazing tone, and it seems easier than my old horn in playing through the range of the horn. Very "clean" sounding to my ears. The valves are very nice and responsive. The 3rd valve trigger is very helpful for tuning lower notes. I have noticed that you need to use the trigger even on a low G and F#. I was surprised that they blow sharp without the trigger. It is taking me a little time to adjust to the air requirements for this horn compared to what I am used to. Seems to require more air to fill the horn. I am also playing on the Fab5 mouthpiece, which is deeper than what I have previously played. So there is a combination of things that, for me, require some adjustment. Overall though, I could not be happier with this flugelhorn. Any issues are with me and not the horn. Bravo to Adams and ACB for creating and marketing this horn. It's well worth the money.

    Adams Sonic Flugelhorn

Having owned this flugel for several weeks, I think I can give an accurate assessment from an “intense” amateur’s point of view. The pictures don’t do this horn justice. The gold lacquer is truly beautiful. The valves are as fast or faster than other brand trumpet, cornet or flugelhorn I currently own (Getzen, King, Yamaha, respectively). The third valve slide and trigger are fast and move smoothly. It is a bit of a stretch for short fingers. I don’t use it very much because the horn is very well tuned. The only thing I would change would be adding a first valve slide water key. It loads up quickly, especially during warmup. I remove and dump it regularly. The slide has a precision fit and is sometimes difficult to reinstall. That’s the only reason I gave it four stars. Overall, this is a great horn. I am very satisfied.
