"It literally transforms my horn into something completely different sonically, and feels great on the chops as well. Having played on the same two mouthpieces for the last decade I typically don't like to change my setup but this piece is a permanent addition to my gigging arsenal from now on." -Andrew

ACB FX Mouthpieces - Trumpet Mouthpiece, Flugelhorn Sound

This is an extension over our very popular TF series... people have wanted an even deeper, darker, richer, and thicker hybrid sound. This is it! The extra short (but still standard gapping) trumpet shank balances out the extra-deep cup for improved intonation. We are very excited to offer this to our clients! Every rim in the ACB line is available. Get yours today!

Available in MODERN BLANK ONLY.

As you can imagine, having access to a darker, more flugelhorn-like tone color through a simple mouthpiece change is much more convenient than carrying a flugelhorn with you at all times. We developed this mouthpiece so you can always have that deep, rich sound handy--right in your mouthpiece pouch!

You don't have to just take our word for it. Read some to the reviews below to see how the ACB FX Series Mouthpieces are helping our customers expand their sound palettes and raise their trumpet game to the next level!

Welcome to the NEW STANDARD!

"Making custom mouthpieces is one of the main reasons I opened up my shop. I wanted to make a mouthpiece that felt comfortable, had a rich sound full of overtones, and didn't zap my endurance! After a lot of time on the lathe, I'm proud to say I've developed a comprehensive offering of mouthpieces sizes for any gig! We have the absolute best tolerances in the industry!" -Trent Austin

Why a new standard line?   It's a simplified version of our previous standard line mouthpieces with a bunch of improvements over the past decade plus.  Lots of companies update their products annually and we feel like it’s time we finally updated our line with all of the amazing improvements we have been implementing over these 12+ years.   We've simplified the line a great deal and eliminated a lot of frankly confusing options (although anything can still be custom ordered in our legacy listing).  The introduction of our Custom Reserve  line showed us many things in terms of ease of stock and having products almost always available for you. This makes it easier for us to always have pieces in stock and also far easier for our dealers too!

The best part there's not going to be an increase in price for the customer. It seems like everything else is increasing in price, the ACB New Standard series will be still available at the same price as our current standard line.  This has taken us close to a year to work on and we are so excited to show you the fruits of our labor!

Most of our ACB mouthpieces are in stock in our selected preferred  blank.  This has been chosen by testing a great deal of options and we honestly feel these are the best blanks for the new line.  Of course  other ACB blanks are custom made to order and may not be in stock. Please note that almost every manufacturer measures in a slightly different place, so the comparison information sheet is for broad comparisons only.

Please note there are no returns on custom orders; gold plating is considered a custom order.

1 Series mouthpieces: Similar to the Papa/00 in the Legacy series, the rim is .684".

1 ¼ seriesthis has a classic Bach Mt. Vernon 1-1/4C mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program to our cups. The rim is .673".

1 ½ Series: this piece has a classic Bach Mt. Vernon 1-½ C mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program to our cups. The rim is .668".

  • "Trent makes some ridiculously good mouthpieces. He's either a genius or completely lottery lucky on mouthpiece designs. His 1.25Orch model is to die for. Try it for yourself" -a satisfied customer

2 Series rim (based on our ACB MV3C rim): this piece has a classic Bach Mt. Vernon 3C mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program to our cups. The rim is .664".

  • "I have the MV3C and the MV3L. Both have a great sound and are really easy to play." -Mario

3 Series mouthpieces: same rim as on my Legacy 3C, which is my take on a fantastic Bach 3C mouthpiece from the late 60's; I have never played a 3C like it.

4 Series rim (based on our ACB 3CS rim): the rim is comfortable, with an inner diameter of .650".

5 Series mouthpieces: long considered a transitional mouthpiece for the student, I've spent a bunch on time on this piece as most of my earlier prototypes didn't make the cut. This mouthpiece has an incredibly rich tone with fantastic articulations and ease in all registers. It's a great, comfortable mouthpiece with a .644" inner diameter!

  • "I've given Trent's 3C mouthpiece a 5 star review in the past and thought I'd do the same for the 3CS (now the 4CS in our new standard line) that I'm currently playing... It's quite simply the most comfortable and most responsive 3C type mouthpiece I've ever played with a fat, warm core to the sound. It's just a super efficient design that sounds great, what else do you need in a mouthpiece! Thanks so much for all the great gear you've made available to the trumpet world, keep up the great work Trent!" -Ray

10 ½ series mouthpieces: while this is a fairly small diameter mouthpiece (.630") it produces a big tone, with a fine high register and resonating low register. I started with this piece thinking it would a good mouthpiece for students to start on, but I find it very good for all players, especially those with very thin lips and ones who want a bit more corner support.

  •  "About a year ago, I switched to the ACB Lead 1. I have virtually played every brand on the market over the past 20 years and nothing has helped secure my playing like the Lead 1. The sound, articulation and projection is second to none. Trent is not only a first class musician but also a first class gentleman and businessman. Kudos to making equipment that works with you to maximize the musician within!" -a satisfied customer

TA1 Series (designed for my own personal playing needs): While the TA1 is based on Clark Terry’s mouthpiece, I made a few alterations and improvements. Clark’s original rim design was VERY flat, so for the TA1 I modified the rim and cup to make it more accessible for today’s modern player. The TA1 rim is still flat, but not nearly as pronounced as on Clark’s mouthpiece. I increased the diameter of the piece as well, as the original was a tiny bit small for my taste. The inner diameter is .639".

ACB FX Mouthpiece- What a Cool Piece!

Posted by Alex Pawlowski on 10th Jan 2022

This is a such a cool mouthpiece! It plays so smooth, dark, and soft, and isn’t nearly as hard to play as you’d think! As others have said, anything above an A above the staff is pretty difficult to achieve, but that’s just the nature of the mouthpiece. Everything else is feel wise is pretty close to its trumpet mouthpiece counterpart It is SUPER deep and the throat is really wide, which gives it a really open blow. The mouthpiece is short in length, and really cool lookin! It sounds exactly like a flugelhorn. The best part is if you already own an ACB piece, you can put the rim of your daily driver on the FX and it feels the same on your face, no adjustment needed! The ACB FX is just a fantastic mouthpiece that is so unique, fun and practical to play, and is a prefect compromise if you don’t have a flugel handy. Thanks to everyone over at ACB for their fantastic customer service and this amazing mouthpiece!

    Hybrid mouthpiece

Posted by Brad Niemi on 14th Dec 2021

This ACB hybrid trumpet/flugelhorn mouthpiece does exactly as advertised: gives a Bb trumpet a very dark, flugelhorn sound. VERY useful if you do a lot of gigs, as I do, where are you might need a flugel horn on only a couple of tunes. As usual, ACB service and pricing is top notch!

This was a great inexpensive alternative for playing in the jazz group at my college instead of purchasing a flugelhorn.

    Mouthpiece

First new mouthpiece in 30 years. Wanted to replace my Stork 2B and was after speaking to someone I went with the FX Papa Bear. Quick shipping and nice packaging. It played great out of the box. Nice dark sound. Need to spend more time on it.

    FX Hybrid 2B

Posted by Richard Roenne on 11th May 2021

I have the Hybrid FX 3 and the Standard 2B trumpet mouthpiece. I wanted the 2B in the FX series to keep the same rim as the 2B trumpet. It does work fine and it also fits the large taper mouthpipe to my flugelhorn, which makes the flugel sound even more buttery. Love it.

    Awesome!!!

Posted by Bryant Jordan on 27th Nov 2020

There's really nothing else like it. It turns your horn into something you didn't know existed, and opens up a TON of possibilities on the trumpet. 100% recommended. And, as always, superb customer service from Josh and Trent at ACB. The best of the best.

    FX Hybrid 3

Posted by Rick Roenne on 19th Nov 2020

You are exactly correct. Have tried it out on my Yamaha Xeno in the large bore and reverse lead pipe, and what a dark sound. Just beautiful. Going to try out the solo "Share My Yoke" on it and I think I am going to love it. I also like the shorter shank which I think will bring in some notes to be better in tune. The fit does feel very similar to my Bach 3 but with that flugel sound. I hope others feel the same way I do. If so, then I know you will have a winner in the sales market. I also want to say that the gold rim and cup do not slip on the lips, at least for me, it may take a little longer to get the mouthpiece but it is worth the wait. As the British would say, "Good-OH". "Jolly well good".

    Everything and more !!

Posted by Garot Conkin on 28th Feb 2019

Reached out to my pal Troy Dowding to have a discussion about a mouthpiece that would best emulate the mellow tone of a flugelhorn without having to switch to a flugelhorn. The ACB FX Hybrid came up immediately from Troy. I checked out the video on the ACB site and wow... these pieces are every bit as mellow as the DEMO reveals. Very deep cup, very free blowing, almost no resistance and man does it mellow out any horn. I have an old Conn 16B Director as well as my main RBT Benzina custom horn, and they are both like butter with this mouthpiece. If you are looking for that mellow flugelhorn sound out of your trumpets, look no further.
